En Route

This category is for inexperienced, amateur photographers using a compact camera or basic SLR (film or digital) - even a mobile phone! The category brief is simple – show us what you saw on a journey somewhere

We live to travel, and may even travel to live, and often it is not the destination but the journey itself which provides the most interesting experiences and images. Show us what you found en route.

What subjects can you include?

Anything you saw and captured en route to somewhere else! Your image might be taken in the plane, train or car you were travelling, or from a boat, a cable car or horseback, elephant-back or while travelling on foot. It could be a view, an element of the travel experience itself, someone you encountered on the way.

How many images?

1 image - This is a single image category, but you can submit either 1 or 2 images for the same entry fee. Each image will be judged individually.

What are the judges looking for?

A story in your picture, a sense of atmosphere, creativity, originality. A sense of going on a journey.

Am I eligible?

This category is for photographers aged 19 years and over. It is open to beginners and inexperienced amateur photographers using mobile phones, compact cameras or basic SLRs only.

Photographers who have sold any of their images, had their images published, or previously won a photography competion, are not eligible for this award.

If you are a more experienced or professional photographer then please respect these category restrictions and do not enter this category; please give photographers who are less experienced the chance to participate in the TPOTY awards. Your entry status will be checked before winners are announced.

How many times can I enter?

You can enter this category as often as you wish.
