Image sizes for uploading
Uploaded images for competition entry should be in jpeg file format at resolution 72dpi. The maximum file size for uploaded images is 1 Mb at 72dpi (this will be lower than the original image size and resolution). Please make sure that the image you are uploading is no longer than 1500 pixels along its biggest size at 72dpi. If the image is bigger the system may attempt to upload it, but it will not then show in your entry. If you have this issue with an upload, please check the dimensions of the file you are trying to upload – some files can be within our 1Mb limit at 72dpi but be larger than 1500 pixels along the longest size, and this can cause upload issues.
For all categories except Smart Shot, the ORIGINAL images (not the files you upload) must ideally be high enough resolution to be printed at at least 45cm (a minimum of 5000 pixels) along longest length at 300dpi. If you are unsure about this, please contact us.
Scanned images – if you have shot your images on negative or transparency and then scanned them, you can still upload them for any category except Smart Shot.
The online entry process
Once you are ready to proceed, please register and login or, if you are already registered with us, login to your account , then select the ‘Enter Competition’ button you will see on the My Account page. Then select the category or categories you wish to enter, and pay any entry fees (you do this before you upload images). If you wish to enter any category more than once, you will be able to increase the number of entries for that category when you reach your shopping basket.
Once your payment is received (young TPOTY is free to enter) you will be able to upload your images.
Uploading your images: You will be able to access the image upload system for the categories you have paid for through the ‘My Entry Submissions’ section of your ‘My Account‘ page.
Once you have submitted your images, if you need to amend the captions for any uploaded images, you will be able to do so through the ‘My Entry Submissions’ section of your account. If you need to amend an uploaded image (once you have completed that submission), please contact us.
TRAVEL SHORTS (HD VIDEO CATEGORY)
There is no direct upload facility for video submission through the TPOTY website, but you pay for your entry and provide a download link using our online entry form, so please follow the register and login information given above, select the ‘Enter Competition’ button you will see on the My Account page and choose Travel Shorts from the category menu then follow the instructions that appear.
A reminder re digital manipulation
You may use digital manipulation to optimise an image, and you may crop an image but you are not permitted to add or remove key elements of the composition. Brightness, contrast, colour balance can all be adjusted. Dust spots and minor elements etc. can be retouched. Images can be sharpened before printing.
Manipulations which could realistically be achieved in a darkroom will be accepted but the judges have the discretion to reject any image which has been, in their opinion, over-manipulated, removing the integrity of the original image.
Composite or montaged images, from more than one original image are not eligible – this includes images shot at different exposures/dynamic ranges and combined out of the camera. Images stitched to form a panoramic image will be accepted provided that the entrant declares, at the time of submission, that the final image has been produced in this way. Multiple exposures ‘in camera’ is permitted.
Entrants who are shortlisted will be required to provide the original image file (RAW or jpeg as shot) along with the print and highest resolution version of their image for final judging and for the exhibition, if selected. UPDATE: Due to the global pandemic and for safety reasons we have reluctantly decided to move the final phase of judging online for this year only, so shortlisted entrants do not have to provide prints for final judging this year.
By submitting your entry you are confirming that your image/s are eligible under our digital manipulation rules. If they are subsequently discovered not to be, they will be disqualified.
