2003 to 2024

Travel Photographers of the Year’s (TPOTY) past exhibitions have taken these awards around the world from the UK to China, In 2024 we will have our first exhibition in South America, in Bolivia, and this will be TPOTY’s 50th major international exhibition.

In 2025 we will also return to Xposure Festival of Photography in Sharjah, UAE, for the 7th time with one of the largest exhibitions at this event.

  • In 21 years TPOTY has staged 49 major exhibitions of the work of photographers from around the world, attracting millions of visitors.
  • Despite the pandemic, TPOTY staged a covid-safe outdoor exhibition at new London venue, Coal Drops Yard, Kings Cross from the end of September to early November 2020 and in February 2021 at the Xposure International Photography Festival in Sharjah, UAE.
  • For the last 7 years, at the Xposure International Photography Festival in Sharjah, UAE, and will return in 2025.
  • In 2018 and 2019 the exhibition was seen by over two million people in its location at London Bridge City in central London, next to City Hall and close to Tower Bridge and HMS Belfast.
  • In the same year, the exhibition debuted at the World Heritage Site in Sintra, Portugal and at Xposure International Photography Festival in Sharjah and Dubai taking the total audience for the year to about 2 million people.
  • A quarter of a million people saw the Travel Photographer of the Year exhibitions in London, Hull, Malta and Beijing in 2016 and 2017.
  • A five year partnership with the Royal Geographical Society in South Kensington, London, saw the Travel Photographer of the Year exhibition become a firm summer favourite with many visitors to London, 200,000 visiting the exhibition over these five years. Each year saw record attendances and TPOTY consistently featured in the TimeOut top 10 exhibitions in London. In 2016 the exhibition moved to Greenwich.
  • The first touring exhibition went to the ‘Birthplace of Photography’ in 2015 with a five week outdoor exhibition at the National Trust’s Lacock Abbey in England.
  • TPOTY exhibited at the British Airways London Eye on London’s South Bank during the summers of 2005 and 2006 with an estimated 10 million visitors seeing the exhibition on the walkway by the express ticket office on the South Bank.
